Cours Xavier Arnozan
The Chartrons district
The Chartrons district originated in the early 18th century with Anglo-Irish immigrants who, because they were not Catholic, were obliged to establish their wine stores outside the city walls slightly downstream (Quai des Chartrons). The late 18th century houses on the north side of the Cours Xavier Arnozan with their uniform, refined and somewhat sober façades were built by the architect Etienne Laclotte as a property investment plan for the wealthy wine merchants of British stock.
If you like antiques, the Chartrons is an excellent place for an antique stroll. There are lots of shops in this district, especially in rue Notre-Dame.
